HealthSense enables the severity and growth of Partial Discharge (PD) activity in a transformer to be tracked over time.
The HealthSense sensor includes a multi-band UHF impulse noise receiver. The received impulse noise statistics are processed for impulsive and background characteristics to identify the intensity and prevalence of PD activity. The results are plotted over time so sporadic PD activity vs operating state and general PD noise growth can be monitored through Life.
Because the HealthSense is detecting partial discharge from one point, within an unknown physical and electrical structure, PD Background and PD Activity tracking is relative over time, rather than an absolute measurement. If significant changes or escalation of activity are detected, it is recommended that PD be investigated further using dedicated instrumentation.
